Jack is six!
Jack and his friend Jessie share a birthday. She turned five, and he turned six. Jack decided that they would share a birthday party this year, and he wasn't really having it any other way. Jessie wanted a "Frozen" birthday party, and Jack really couldn't have cared less.
"It's whatever Jessie wants Mom. It's just easier that way."
Hahahahahahaha! He's really young to have already come to terms with that. Oh Jack. You are going to make an awesome husband one day.
The cake was baked by a lady at our church. To say the cake is awesome is an understatement.
There was plenty of food, and presents. Jack likes presents, but it's really hard to tell. He doesn't outwardly get excited about much of anything. He may smile for a quick second, but that's it. He is the polar opposite of Justice, who jumps up and down and acts like a fool when you give him a piece of gum. If I could get the two of them to meet somewhere in the middle I'd be all set.
Since their party was the day before their actual birthday, we still had to do something on his actual birthday. I typically cook them whatever birthday dinner they choose, and with Jack that is always a dicey proposition. This year was no exception.
Me: "What do you want for your birthday dinner?"
Jack: "Macaroni and cheese. The kind without the crust on top, the orange kind."
Me: "Oh gross Jack, you mean the kind in the box and not homemade?"
Jack: "YES."
Me: "That's it? You need a side dish. What do you want on the side?"
Jack: "Bacon."
Yeah, that conversation really happened. Kraft mac and cheese and bacon. Ha! Thankfully I didn't run out and buy either of those things because he changed his mind. Randomly he announced he would like to have cheese dip for his birthday dinner. For those of you that don't live here, the Mexican restaurants here serve a wildly popular dip with the salsa and chips that is a basic white cheese/rotel type dip. Jack loves it.
We gave him his gift from us before dinner. He was pretty specific about what he wanted, so their was no surprise there. He paced the floor back and forth waiting for his Dad to get home from work so he could open it.
"You don't need to wrap it, I hate wrapping paper. It's not necessary. Leave the item in the bag from the store." His vocabulary kills me.
Jack is growing, slow and steady. Still a little on the short side, but we've pretty much seen that coming for years. He's definitely not going to be tall. We do hope he will hit the average mark, whatever that may be… but for now, he's 45 1/2 inches tall and 44 pounds. He's solid as a rock, and the doctor commented at his physical last month that she'd never seen a child his age with a six pack. He gets those good genes from The Coach, definitely not from his Mama. Green is still his favorite color, and bacon is absolutely his favorite food. Turkey bacon, pork bacon, smoked bacon, brown sugar bacon, thin sliced bacon, thick cut bacon, bacon bits, fake bacon, real bacon. Jack does not discriminate, he loves all bacon.
It is definitely worth mentioning that Jack no longer has a temper. Really, no temper at all. He went from being the orneriest and meanest kid I've ever met to being the most chilled out kid I've ever met. He's rounding out to be a well behaved little kid. I didn't see that coming a year ago, and I couldn't be prouder of him.
Happy Birthday little guy. We are so proud of you and we love you to pieces.

You tell Jack he can come to my house anytime and I'll feed him the good mac and cheese in the blue box with a side of bacon. Both of those things are always in stock around these parts. =) And you mean to tell me in other parts of the country our beloved cheese dip isn't served? I'm so confused, and saddened by that thought. That's like when I found out not everyone knew what CFA was.
ReplyDeleteHe is an amazing and wonderful and unique child and I adore him!
