Happy Birthday Justice

Justice turned ten on February 18th.  The time goes by so quickly, I cannot believe he's ten already.  He was excited for this birthday, he kept saying this was going to be a big birthday for him, and that being ten meant he would need to do more chores and be less scared of the dark.  He said it also meant certain "little kid" chores were beneath him now and that he was going to pass the chore of feeding the dogs on to Jack.  For the record, Jack is doing a much better job of feeding the dogs than we expected.

He started out his morning with a special breakfast of "Birthday Cake Pancakes".  I tried these out on a whim this year, and the kids loved them.  These pancakes will definitely be a new birthday tradition in our house!

Then Shandi gave him a giant bag full of candy for his birthday... you know, to wash down the sugar-laden pancakes.

Joe and I bought him a new bike for his birthday, and he was so excited.  Bike riding was a sore subject in this house for awhile.  Justice didn't actually learn to ride a bike until his 8th birthday.  It was the strangest thing, having such an athletic kid that absolutely could not get the hang of riding a bike.  And for the record, he's still not great at it, I'd never let him ride anywhere by himself yet.  Hopefully he will get better over the summer.  I remember when we took his training wheels off, he literally just said "well, that's it for that, no more bike riding for me" and shut it down for a couple years.  We just let it be, and he finally came around this year and asked for a new bike.

Safety disclaimer:  I do make the boy wear a helmet, I just had to find it while he was testing his new bike out.  Actually I don't have to make him wear it, he's afraid he's going to crack his head open so he wears it on his own.  He realizes his own skill level, haha.

He will eventually get the hang of it, in the summer we spend a lot of time outside so he will have the opportunity to practice a lot.  Jack isn't going to be any better, we can already tell it's going to be a problem for him, too.  He can't ride a tricycle or anything.  The pedal-concept confuses him.  I see a post just like this in the future for Jack's tenth birthday, too.

We did not have a big birthday party this year, but we allowed Justice to invite his best friend Carter to go to Incredible Pizza with Justice and his Dad on his Birthday.  I stayed home with Jack, Incredible Pizza is too much for him.  And me!

Bumper Cars

Laser Tag

Bowling

Mini Golf

And after five hours at Incredible Pizza, he and Carter came back to the house and we sang Happy Birthday and ate cupcakes.

Happy Birthday to my sweet boy!!!

  2. Awesome! I loved riding bikes, non-stop, but I also took my time learning to ride! I had training wheels for quite some time :) Happy Birthday Justice!

  3. Genetics are a funny thing...Marty had the hardest time learning to ride without training wheels, and he was Karri's "junkyard dog" for quite a while!
