Tremaine

This is Tremaine.

Tremaine is actually a fuzzy green pillow that we bought for Justice at Ikea nearly 8 years ago.  It's a sturdy playmate, and has survived many wrestling matches and lots of football-style tackles.  And then one day several months ago, Jack brought the pillow into the kitchen with him and I realized he was talking to it.  I asked him who he was talking to, and he simply replied, very shyly and timidly,

"My friend.  His name is Tremaine."

And you know me, I have raised enough kids to just roll with the punches, so I introduced myself to Tremaine and asked him if he was hungry.  Jack beamed with happiness.  I could tell he was fearful that I would think he was crazy, or that I would laugh at him.  I would never do any such thing.  I've never had a kid with an imaginary friend before, but I'm certainly not freaked out about it and I would never laugh at him.  On the contrary, I appreciate the creativity and his imagination.  And no, I have NO earthly idea where he came up with the ghetto-fabulous name Tremaine.  And I'm not going to ask.

But today was a special day.  It was Tremaine's birthday.  Jack informed me last week that Tremaine was about to turn five.  I'm all about a birthday party.  We had cupcakes.  Jack and Justice made party hats, and we sang Happy Birthday to Tremaine before the football festivities began.

Jack informed me that chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting are Tremaine's favorite.  And that's funny, because Jack doesn't really like chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting.  So this was not a case of trying to benefit from his imaginary friend.

Jack blew out his candle for him.  You know, since Tremaine doesn't seem to have a mouth.  Ha!

Happy Birthday Tremaine.

I don't know how long you plan to be around, but you are certainly welcome to travel in our circus as long as you'd like.
