The Diaper Changer

Justice is a really great big brother.  Sure, he and Jack fight like typical brothers do, but he loves him to pieces and is incredibly patient and tolerant of the little guy.  Jack pretty much treats him like a door mat 90% of the time, and Justice takes it like a champ.

I love these pictures, taken at the hospital the day Jack was born.  It's pretty obvious it was love at first sight.

Justice desperately wanted this baby.  It got to the point where I felt like I was letting him down when I couldn't get pregnant.  When I finally sat him down last spring after the loss we suffered and told him it wasn't going to happen, he cried really hard.  He was so sad.  But later he said he never stopped praying.

So, when we got the shock of our lives with this pregnancy and being the awesome parents that we are, we decided that we would tease Justice about being "The Diaper Changer" in a "careful what you pray for" kind of way.  Joe even went so far as to buy him his very own "diaper caddy" so he'd have his own changing station for the baby.   We wrapped it up and gag gifted it to him.  He was mortified.  And even though we were only teasing him, we should have known he would take it seriously.  The past month or so, he would ask us questions about changing diapers and we just continued to feed the fire.  He finally said:

"I've got this, I can change all the diapers.  I'm not scared of a little poop.  Jack pees on me in the shower all the time (Really?  That's SO GROSS!).  It doesn't bother me."

And this morning, he woke up early and declared:

"Only one more day till baby comes!  I better get my diapers situated!"

And he pulled out his diaper caddy, and the diapers, wipes, ointment, etc. and organized everything.  Then he asked me to buy him a container of hand sanitizer.  I hadn't even thought of that.  Huh.  Joe and I got a good laugh out of that.

Look at that smile.  Have you ever seen anybody, let alone an 11 year old boy so excited about changing a diaper?

Of course, a random loose poop hasn't gotten all over his hands yet and he hasn't been shot in the eye with a wild pee, but at least he's giving it a shot and not being a wimp about it, right?
