"And the Award Goes To..."

I've already mentioned how horrible Justice's football season was.  0-14 for those that need a quick recap.

The end of season football banquet just happened to be on Shandi's birthday this year.  Justice was NOT disappointed that we had a conflict, and he did not want to go.  He really had a rough season, all of the boys did.  They ended the season with broken spirits and a corresponding lack of confidence.  I didn't mind that he didn't want to go, he was just starting to emerge from the dark cloud of the season and I don't think picking the scab off the wound would have been helpful.  So, we took Shandi out to dinner and celebrated her birthday with her instead.  And that's what family should do anyway, right?  Shandi herself wanted us to go to the banquet because she was also a sports kid growing up and the thought of missing a banquet just didn't feel right.  Justice INSISTED that we spend the evening with her though, so that's what we did.  

And look what we missed out on.

WOW!!!  How awesome is that?  It is really awesome for the boy that has a wounded spirit.  His spirit is so broken that when a few of the football Mom's texted me to tell me that he won it and I very excitedly told him, his reaction was pitiful.

"ME?  That can't be right, why did they pick me?" 

And only a few minutes later:

"Mom, they must have made a mistake, it can't be me".

Oh how SAD!  My poor baby boy!  But pick him they did, and I'm so happy for him.  He really really NEEDED this award.  

This is the trophy that all the kids receive just for participating.  I've never been a fan of that.  But it is what it is, and it's a giant cool trophy.  And a smiley little boy, who actually wanted to wear his football jersey again.
