The First Day of School

My kids are off to school, hallelujah.  Well, sort of.  I am glad they are off to school, but I do miss them.  It's a love/hate thing, having them home.  I miss them but good grief they can flip the house upside down and it's total chaos.  I'm not a big fan of chaos, so it's tough for me.  The summer is just about long enough.

Jack is happy as can be, he got the first grade teacher he wanted.  We are really fortunate that we get to request a teacher.  Although I have no experience with this particular teacher, Jack was adamant that he wanted her for first grade.  I'm not going to argue with that, if he likes her already that's half the battle.  Luckily, our request was honored and he was a very happy little boy.  That does not mean that he isn't still trying to get out of going to school, he's still up to his old tricks.  I've been ignoring him as best as I can, and he's trudging to school and doing really well so far.  Miss Cindy, his Kindergarden teacher, touched base with his new teacher and told her how excited Jack was that she was going to be his teacher.  When I took him for the first day, she really went out of her way to be excited that he was in her class.  It was really great, I'm so thankful for the teachers at his school.

Justice, on the other hand, has my nerves in complete knots.   He is not taking his ADHD meds anymore, and I'm nervous.  Here's the thing:  He has a considerable amount of pressure on him this year because he is the President of the National Junior Honor Society.  His GPA is really high and it needs to stay that way because of his position.  So as a Mom, I'm naturally worried about all that pressure.  He is handling it like a champ though so far.  He has relied on prayer and his scriptures to give him the strength to get through it, and it's helped him tremendously.  I really think he will thrive in seminary next year.

Jack was sure school would be canceled the first day because we had one nasty thunderstorm that morning.  It was dark and gloomy.  Hard to believe it was 7AM.

Justice grew over the summer, finally. Two inches and 14 pounds.  He had to have all new clothes and shoes for school.  He is officially in a mens size shoe and in the last available clothing size for boys.  Next time he gets clothes it will be mens sizes.  He's a whopping 94 pounds now, a weight I never though the poor kid would see, let alone in 8th grade.  He looks great though, it's all muscle mass and he looks so healthy.

Love these two kids, I hope and pray they both have a good year.
