Potty Training

That's really not even the right title for this post.   There was absolutely ZERO training involved.  No accidents, no drama and no tragedy.

I have never started potty training before the 2 1/2 year mark.  I don't even bring it up.  At the 2 1/2 year point, I slowly start to bring it up and eventually within a month or two all the kids have been potty trained.  The longest was Jack and he was fully trained at 2 yrs and 8 months.

I hate potty training.  I don't bring it up earlier because it's a miserable time.  And I'm not going to lie, I was absolutely DREADING doing it this last time.  Heavenly Father must have known I needed a break though because it happened so quickly it took a while for it to sink in.  Just like that, Bo was using the toilet.

Bo:  "Can I poop in the toilet?"
Me:  "Huh?  NO!"

I mean, he was only 2 yrs and three months.  I still had three months left before I hit the magic mark and I hadn't even come up with a game plan yet.  So I said no.

Five minutes later:

Bo:  "Can I poop in the toilet?"
Me:  "No."

Five minutes later:

Bo:  "MOM!  I pooped in the toilet!"

Wait, what?  Yes, he did.  Peeled his diaper off and pooped in the toilet.  I was seriously devastated because you can't really go back from that.  It had started.  Potty training.  And I wasn't ready.  I had no underwear, I had no pull ups, I had no treats.  And I certainly wasn't mentally ready for the struggle that was sure to ensue.

But that was it.  He peed in the toilet a few minutes later, and never wore a diaper again.  There was no struggle.  There was no accidents.  There he was, just using a diaper one morning and being potty trained by bedtime.  I've never seen anything like it.  I am extremely thankful it was that easy.  And I'm proud of this kid.  He's stubborn as a mule, and has a head harder than my granite countertops, but in situations like this it's a good thing.  He was ready to use the toilet, and that was that.

Congratulations little guy.  Thank you for using your strong will for good instead of evil, just this once.
