I can't believe my life is so boring that I haven't blogged in nearly a month. I'm going to just be thankful it's been a quiet month, because things are gearing up and won't stay this way for long, I'm sure.
I am so happy to report that Jack is absolutely loving school. Not only is he loving it, but he is doing very well as far as I can tell. It's hard to say without sitting down and talking with the teacher, but just from seeing all the work he brings home, he appears to be completing everything correctly and on time.
What a relief.
Do you know what is an even bigger (and shocking) relief?
His conduct and behavior. It's nearly perfect.
Yeah, that's what I said. He's behaving himself. Not just behaving himself, but he is a "model student". Say what? Jack? A model student?
Isn't that AWESOME? It is indeed, and I am so happy for him!
Miss Cindy (his teacher) has a chart that has several different colors that correspond to behavior. The best behavior is pink, then goes purple, blue, green, orange, yellow and red. That's a whole bunch of categories to fall into, and Miss Cindy is pretty tough on the kids as far as behavior is concerned. I remember when Justice had Miss Cindy, he rarely got green and was mostly in the yellow and red zone. Each child starts the day out in the green section which is smack in the middle of the chart. They then get moved either up or down based on good or bad behavior. Check out Jack's calendar for the first few weeks of school…
He has moved up above green every single day this year. And let me tell you, Miss Cindy doesn't just give out the colors above green. You have to be a really well behaved kid to get above green. I went to pick him up from school for a dentist appointment last week, and there were only two kids in the whole class above green. Jack and a little girl. Yay for Jack! I'm seriously tickled pink about it, because I thought for sure his behavior would be heinous.
I'm so happy for Jack, he's come SUCH a long way from the days of fighting and being a mouthy mess. He's had some little struggles though. Kindergarden here is all day long, and they don't nap. I didn't think this would be an issue for him since he stopped napping before he turned three. School zaps the life out of him though, and he falls dead asleep within minutes after I pick him up at school. Sometimes he cries for a few minutes because he's tired, but he always goes right to sleep and sleeps all the way home. It's a decent catnap for him though and it perks him up enough to get through the rest of the afternoon.
And then there's the whole bit about him wanting his name to just be Jack instead of Jackson.
"The s's are too hard to write. I just need to change my name."
Ha. Oh Jack.
Keep your fingers crossed, my friends. I think Jack just may be all right after all.

You crack me up. I can't believe you thought he was going to be a holy terror at school. Think about how good he does in primary! He is consistently the only person on his row who actually looks up at the front and isn't doing something ridiculous. Even when he's not feeling singing time he doesn't cause problems, he just sits there bored unlike many others. (you know what I mean.) And when Jack is feelin' it, boy he gets into it. I'm so glad he's loving school.
ReplyDeletePS, with Jack's huge turn around doesn't that give you more hope for bad baby Bo?
