2013 Primary Program

Today our church held its annual Primary music program.  All the children from ages 3 through 11 perform an hour-long program at our church.  They sing all of the songs they have learned throughout the year and also recite some lines about what they've learned in class.

Let it be known that Justice has been all about public speaking and performing since he was a very small child.

Jack?  Yes well I'm sure you can all guess how much Jack enjoys being in the public eye.

Not in the slightest.

Last year, Jack refused to even participate in the program.  He went up in the front with all the other children, and that lasted about two minutes.  Before you know it, he's back down sitting with his Dad, refusing to go back up.  I wasn't there last year to witness that mess because I was pregnant and on bed-rest.  I was glad I missed it, because Jack's refusal to sing or participate really upset and bothered me.

I know, I know.  There's one in every crowd.

I just don't want it to be MINE.

Well let me tell you about Jack's performance today.  Today my little Jack-Jack not only got up in front of everybody to sing, but he sang LOUD and PROUD.  And when I say he sang LOUD, I'm really not exaggerating.  He went from being "that kid that won't sing" to being "that kid that sang too loud".

I know, I know.  There's one in every crowd.

And today, I was glad it was MINE.

Jack sang so well and so loud today that his Primary Chorister gave him "The Balloon" for being the loudest singer of all the kids today.  She brought a beautiful, giant balloon and kept it at the back of the chapel during practice yesterday.  The louder the children sang, the farther the balloon would drift up towards the ceiling.

The look on his face was absolutely priceless when she gave him that balloon.  As a matter of fact, we've been home from church for two hours and he's still sitting quietly, holding on to his balloon.

Well played, Natalie.  Well played!

There was a special number at the end of the program where all the boys went down to the congregation, lined up in the aisles and sang a song.  Justice motioned for Jack to come over and stand by him so he could help him with the song.  Jack replied by telling him:

"I don't need your help Justice.  I GOT THIS."  And indeed he did.

This was a wonderful program.  The kids really performed well and touched my heart today.  It was a little bittersweet for me because this was also Justice's last year to be in the program.  Next year he will be a Deacon and will be too old.  But thankfully, Jackson will be singing loudly and with pride.

What a difference a year makes!

  1. Yep, I'm so proud it was Jack. So shocked because well, we know Jack, and so proud cause he was awesome! There's one in every crowd and I'm not going to loud, I'm a little jealous it wasn't my kid. =) Every junior primary parent wants it to be their kid. I thought I even had a leg up since I'm the chorister and so we practice at home all the time. Oh well, better luck next year. =)

I'm sad Justice is going to be too old for the program. Not in the way you are cause he's growing up and bla bla. Nope, I'm losing my best male singer from the senior primary. Who am I gonna get to replace him? Come on!

I love those Mack boys. I'm hoping I'm either still in or on my second tour of duty when it's Bo's turn.
