I took the boys to Jones Orchard over Spring Break to pick strawberries. We had the best time, it was so much fun. After we picked two huge baskets of strawberries, we took them home and Justice baked a fresh strawberry pie. It was fabulous, I absolutely love strawberry pie. I was really surprised the boys enjoyed themselves, it really could have gone either way. Jack had the most fun, he was super excited the whole time we were there. I'm not much of a gardener, as in "I kill everything I plant", so he was really impressed to see that food grows out of the ground. Something I would take for granted, but through his eyes it was pretty important stuff.
The weather was beautiful, it was overcast and not too hot. I love this picture of the boys holding hands while walking from the parking area to the strawberry fields.
As soon as we got home, Justice wanted to start the pie. He baked his first pie crust. I hate making pie crusts and I'm not that great at it. My Mother makes the very best pie crust I have ever tasted in my entire life, and I've never ever come anywhere close to the taste and texture of hers no matter how many times I've tried. He even fluted his own crust, and did a really great job.
Compare this picture to the next one and you can't help but laugh... He started out looking pretty enthusiastic, huh?
Maybe not so enthusiastic towards the end. That was a heck of a lot of strawberries to wash and slice though.
"Holy cow, Mom! You were right! If you mix Jello, cornstarch and juice it turns into a perfect glaze for our delicious pie! I'm so sorry I doubted your awesomeness!" Ok, maybe those words did not come out of his mouth, but it works with the picture.
We still had a ton of berries left over after the pie, so I let the boys dip some in chocolate.
I'm guessing he likes it? Sort of hard to tell by the look on his face.

I love this! These fun family moments are the ones that will last them a lifetime! Want to adopt me?? ;)
