Happy Birthday Jack!

Jack is eight!  Go Jack!

We had a low-key birthday at home, because Jack is a low-key dude and he doesn't like attention.  He did, however, ask me to bring cupcakes to school.

Store-bought cupcakes.

What?  Ugh.  STORE-BOUGHT CUPCAKES?

No.

Insert eye-roll from Jack.  So he asked for the regular old "birthday cookies", which are giant sugar cookies with different colored frosting and sprinkles.

And then Jack got his wish, Jack got store bought cupcakes.  Boy was he surprised!

And so was I.  Store bought cupcakes were not in my plan.  You may wonder why that's a big deal to me, but you know I'm limiting preservatives because all my kids get sick from eating them.  The very last thing I want to do to Jack's teacher is to hop him up on garbage that will make him crazy and then say "HA!  Have fun with that!" and leave.  But that's what ended up happening, thanks to the Tiny Terrorist known as Bo Mack.

I baked and frosted the cookies, and then went to shower.  That always ends poorly, I should know by now I'm not allowed to shower.  While I was in the shower, Bo licked all the frosting off of 75% of the cookies.  One hour before I was supposed to drop them off at school.

So, I called my friend and asked her what grocery stores carry ready-made cupcakes and off I went.  AND, while I was at it, I went ahead and bought bright red fruit punch too.  I mean, what the heck... May as well.  Ha!

Bo had a great time at school.  He corrected my grammar twice in front of Jack's teacher, and she thought that was hilarious.

Jack also had a birthday cake.  His favorite combo is yellow cake with chocolate frosting, so of course that's what I baked him.

Now look.  I know I suck at decorating cakes.  I am totally at peace with that.

Jack didn't get a whole bunch of gifts this year.  He asked for a giant soccer net for the backyard, and that's what he got.  Jack has turned out to be one heck of a soccer player.  There will be another post on that after his last game this weekend.

Happy Birthday Jack Mack!  We love you!
