Last summer when we camped we made a mental note of the fact that we were outgrowing the popup. There was plenty of sleeping room as the popup could sleep like 8 people comfortably, but after Bo came around there wasn't enough "moving around" room. Plus we wanted to camp in early spring and late fall when the temperatures have dropped considerably, and the popup is difficult to heat. I was also getting tired of dragging coolers around with us. Because we have three boys, we have to take a lot of food with us. The last time we camped we took two huge coolers with us. What a pain. And I really don't think I could handle The Coach complaining another season about having to use the campground showers again.
So, we traded it in. And we got a new truck! We are really happy with both the new trailer and truck, and we took it out the first weekend after we bought it.
It isn't fancy, but it has triple bunk beds. That was an absolute necessity. What a difference. The popup takes a while to set up, and takes a while to break down. This takes minutes. No messing around with the awning, you just push a button. And it has a full bathroom and even has a small tub. There is a larger size refrigerator, an oven, and a microwave. And a TV with a DVD player so the kids can watch movies at night. That was something I wasn't thrilled with initially, but it works out well when the temperatures are cold outside and they aren't swimming themselves to sleep every night. I don't think we will ever use it in the summer unless we get rained out and the kids are stuck inside.
We went to our favorite local camping spot, T.O. Fuller. Surprisingly enough, there were about ten other folks camping too. That was nice for the kids to have other people to hang out with.
Having a truck is great! Instead of taking forever to put the bikes on the bike rack and rigging the hitch to accommodate both that and the trailer, The Coach just tossed everything in the back of the truck. Bikes, helmets, scooters, skateboards, whatever the kids wanted to bring.
The kids spent the entire weekend outside biking and riding their scooters, and playing on the playground.
This little guy even had fun. He ran around outside until he was exhausted.
This didn't end well. LOL. Poor little guy. He jumped right back up though and tried again.
We noticed Bo struggling to climb into the storage compartment on the trailer. We watched him climb in, it took forever.
Oh. That's why. He wanted the bubbles.
And then he climbed straight through and out the other side.
When they weren't biking or playing on the playground, they were wrestling.
If you look really closely, you can see Jack, squished underneath Justice.
We loved having a bigger seating area. That was the big problem with the popup. We outgrew the table when Bo came along. There was no way we were going to fit in it this summer, now that he has grown so much.
Bo was so tired from playing all day that he tipped right over and fell asleep on Jack's lap during dinner.
We have officially broken in the new trailer, and can't wait to camp lots of times this summer.

I love it. You definitely have me sold on a travel trailer and we've started our little savings account for it. It'll be a while, but that's ok. The kids will be older and hopefully I won't be worried about them trying to put their hands in fire or something dumb.
