Random Justice, September Edition

Progress report time!  Justice had been on pins and needles waiting to get his progress report.  He just wasn't sure what to expect since it was his first middle school report.  Plus, the night before they were due to come out, he came to me with a confession.

Justice:  "I'm not sure how my grades are going to be tomorrow.  I've been doing all my work, but I've been slacking off a little bit and definitely haven't been giving it 100%.  More like 90%."
Me:  "Well, I guess we will have to see tomorrow.  Hopefully they won't be so bad that you can't recover from it before report cards come out."

I wasn't angry or disappointed in him.  I was indeed a little worried though.  We did talk about how SCHOOL couldn't be the thing he slacked off on, that he had to back off of something else and continue to put 100% in at school.   He said he understood and that he was going to stop making bracelets until after football was over if his grades weren't good.  Sounded like a good plan to me.  He's a pretty smart kid most times.

YAY!  I could tell by the look on his face when I picked him up from football that day that he had gotten all A's.  He was REALLY relieved and happy, and promised me he had learned a lesson about his schoolwork and would put in 100% from now on.

I love it when he parents himself.  He makes my job pretty easy.  He was also relieved he wouldn't need to stop making bracelets until football was over.  He loves the little business he's created for himself.

Football is going well, he's playing well and getting the opportunity to play with the Varsity team every once in a while.  While it scares me to death still to see him out there with the bigger kids, it's a good experience for him.  I just close my eyes till the play is over.  His team is undefeated so far with two games in the season before the playoff's begin.  And they win big.  Like 50-0 big.  They have a really tough team to play tomorrow, and if they win they will have home field advantage for the entire playoffs.

If you ask Justice what his favorite part of football is (with the exception of winning) he will tell you it's getting to wear his jersey on game day.  I suppose I remember thinking how cool the football players were on game day... apparently things haven't changed.  If you know Justice, you can see the little bit of extra swagger he's got in this picture.  Too cute.

My favorite picture of the month is Justice on "nerd day" at school.  The cutest thing about it though is that we didn't have to do anything special other than add a pair of glasses.  The bow-tie, suspenders and the rest of it belongs to him and came right out of his closet.

My favorite nerd.

Justice also baked a birthday cake for me this year.  It is my favorite cake, peanut butter with peanut butter frosting and loaded with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups on top.  He did a GREAT job, it was delicious.  It's nice to not have to bake your own birthday cake, haha!

I'm thankful for another good month, blessed to be the parent of this boy and I love him to pieces.
