Random Justice

I gave Jack his own post this month, and it wasn't an hour after I published it that he gave me some more new and tragic material for September's post.  I thought about it for awhile and realized that although Justice hasn't done anything nearly as random as Jack, he's still done some stuff that needs recording.

All right, I have a list of things...

1.  Student Council.
Justice was elected into Student Council.  I'm really happy for him.  I think it's a great opportunity and I hope he gets something out of the experience.  Meetings are at 7 on Friday mornings.  His first meeting was last week and he said it sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

2.  Choir
At the end of fifth grade, he auditioned for middle school choir.  Not only did he make it, but he was also chosen to be in Honor Choir, which is apparently more involved than regular choir, and they also compete.  Most recently though, he was only one of five kids chosen to audition for a regional traveling choir called All West Choir.  Pretty neat, I'm excited for him.  That audition hasn't happened yet, should be sometime in the next month or so.  I still can't quite wrap my arms around this thing with him and choir.  Some songs he can sing like a bird and he really blows me away, and some he can't sing at all and I'm covering my ears for fear of them bleeding.  The good thing about middle school choir is the training, and he is getting better every day.  He is for some unknown reason terrified to sing at church though.  He claims he just "can't sing" hymns.  I think when he learns to read music a little better he will be more confident.

3.  Football
I took a few pictures at his first football game.  He got the opportunity to play, which is rare for a 6th grader.  He is VERY small compared to the other kids on the team.  I pray he hits a growth spurt before  next year or I'm going to wish he wasn't on the team.  He is incredibly fast though, so hopefully he can just continue to outrun the people trying to kill him.

He is # 83, standing with all the rest of the "little people" on the team.  I didn't get a single picture of him from the front.  He was too busy stalking the coach and watching the game to turn around and look at his dear old Mama.  I can usually pick him out of any crowd.  His calves are incredibly skinny, look at them.  They are like pencils.  See the little bitty kid to the far left?  His calves are even bigger than Justice's.

This is what I mean by "stalking the coach".  He trails right behind his coach the entire game.  His theory is that if he's right next to the coach and the coach is in a pinch for a sub, he will get to go in.  His theory has proven to be true several times.

I didn't get any pictures of him playing in the game because as soon as they put him in I panicked and closed my eyes till they took him out.  Seriously, that's what I did.  I had no idea he would get to play and some of those 8th graders are H U G E!  If you scroll back up to the first picture and take a look at the players on the field you will see what I mean.  There are some big fellers out there.

I missed his second game due to a miscommunication of what time the game started.  I'm terribly disappointed because I've never missed a game before, not ever.  We have had a lot of kids playing a lot of sports, and this was a first for me.  I'm pretty sad about it.  He did get to play though, and he played the entire third quarter on defense as a corner back.  His little bitty self had a few really great tackles, too.  He was really excited after the game, and I'm happy for him.  The Coach made it in time to see him play, so at least one of us was there.

4.  School in general.
His homework is wearing him out.  He was up until 9:30 last night attempting to work on Math and it was no good.  He was a frustrated and sad mess.  The Coach helped him through it, but I can tell that he has a lot going on.  The Coach and I will work with him to make sure he isn't overwhelmed.  Choir practice, football practice, early morning Student Council meetings, Boy Scouts, making bracelets, mowing the lawn and the general increase in homework this year is bound to take a toll on him.  Football is tough, once the season is over it should be smooth sailing.  He is a sensible kid though, if he feels he needs to cut something out of his schedule, he will come to us and let us know.  He seems to think he can handle it all, and I'm proud of him.  As long as his grades don't suffer, he can do as he pleases with regards to extra-curricular activities.

5.  Business
He recently completed a big order of 30 bracelets for his Aunt Cyndie to sell at her business.  He has business cards now, so he's "moving up" he says.

Fortunately, I have no tragic stories to write about him this month and I'm really thankful for that!  Hopefully his random posts will continue to be this way and we can save the shenanigans for Jack.
