A Baby Blessing for Jacoby

Jacoby had his baby blessing on June 2nd.  I cannot find the pictures of him dressed up in his cute little white outfit ANYWHERE.  I'm so disappointed, and sad.  Jacoby is our only baby to receive this blessing, because the other two boys were older when we started going back to church.

For you non-Mormon's, a baby is blessed shortly after birth by a group of worthy Melchizedek Priesthood holders.  The priesthood gathers around the baby in a circle, supporting the baby.

This is obviously not the actual picture of Jacoby's blessing, but this is example of what it looks like so you get the idea of what I'm talking about.  As much as I'd have like to have done it, whipping out a camera and taking pictures during blessings is not really in keeping with the Holy Spirit.

If the Father of the child is a worthy priesthood holder, he will administer the blessing.  Joe is indeed a worthy priesthood holder and was able to perform the blessing for our son.  I am very thankful to have the priesthood in our home.

I wish I could remember every single word of his blessing, to have it written somewhere so that Jacoby can reflect upon it later in life if he either wanted to or needed to for strength.  Although I don't remember every single word, I know that he was blessed with strength, both physical and emotional.  He was blessed with being a worthy priesthood holder as he got older, and blessed with serving a mission.  He was blessed with knowledge, honesty, and integrity.  He was blessed with the ability to know right from wrong, and he was told how much his Heavenly Father and his family on earth loves him.

And, now I'm going to take this to a bad place.  Yes, I know.  But you all know me by now, and you get what you get when you are my friend or if you are in my family.

I decided that today when we got home from church, I would take a picture of Jacoby in his white outfit with his Dad.  SO, when we got home from church I squeezed (crammed, stuffed, whatever) Jacoby back into his blessing outfit so I could at least have a picture of it.  Joe humored me, because that's the best way to deal with me.  So he took the picture with Jacoby jammed into that tiny white suit just so I'd have a picture to look back on one day.  I know there is a big difference now, but two generations from now, nobody will care that great-great grandma was a nut-job and shoved the baby into his suit because she lost the pictures.  I will be good Christmas dinner conversation one day, I hope!

Joe, through clenched teeth:  "HURRY!  This thing is so tight on him that the circulation to his legs is getting cut off!"

And right after that, I heard an audible "POP!" as the snaps on the crotch of his outfit popped wide open.  He was coming out of that suit, one way or the other.  The back isn't buttoned either, just for the record.

I sprung for an heirloom quality outfit, with hopes that all the future little boys in our family will be blessed in it when it's their turn.  And although he's a little older now, and clearly much fatter, I will not forget the beautiful day that our little boy was given a name and a blessing in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Amen.
