Easter Sunday

Easter was relatively quiet this year.   Well, except for the tragic fact that Justice finally figured out there was no Easter Bunny.  It's really about time, he is 11 for crying out loud.  But it still sucked the wind out of me for a second.  We were shopping on base, and the lady in front of us had a few of those giant pre-made Easter baskets in her cart.  She hefted them up on the counter, and Justice said:

"Look at those baskets that lady is buying."

He takes the scene in for a second and then says:

"There is no Easter Bunny."

I say nothing.  I am sad.  I told him I didn't want to talk about it, if he had any questions about the Easter Bunny he needed to go talk to his Dad.  He quietly said "OK".  He is sad, too.  I have been waiting for the time to come where he figures it out.  It makes me sad because he has always been the kid that has enjoyed it the most.  Jack already isn't buying the giant bunny business, when Justice was telling him about the Easter Bunny before they went to bed I actually SAW Jack roll his eyes.   I was afraid that Jack would eventually be the one to break the news to Justice.

We never spoke of it again, and he never asked his Dad.

He pretended like nothing was amiss on Easter morning when he got his basket, and was excited.  I was glad.

Yes, that's a Subway gift card in Jack's basket.  Jack loves Subway, and asks to go almost everyday.  We have already talked about Jack's awesome pajamas, so need to revisit that tragedy.

After the boys ate a hearty portion of chocolate for breakfast, everybody got ready for church.  I didn't make matching ties for everyone this year, and Joe was disgruntled.  I purposely never mentioned it, hoping he would forget.  And he did, until the day before Easter.  Thankfully I had previously made plans to attend a church function on Saturday evening so I didn't have any time to sew.   He's on to me though, because he already put in his order for Father's Day ties.

I give Joe credit though, he did a pretty awesome job coming up with some coordinating outfits all on his own.  I sure love these handsome guys.

You just have to love Jack's forced smile.

And I thought I'd throw a miserable pregnancy shot in there, too.  Do I look miserable?  I hope so.  Because I totally am.

After church we came home and Joe thought it would be a good idea to watch The History Channel's loop of "The Bible" mini-series for the ENTIRE rest of the day.  We also hit a major milestone in church today with Jack.  He actually sat in the pew the entire time, rather than sneaking down onto the floor under the pew.  Score.  Not that I really care if he's laying under the pew, because quite honestly I don't.  My kids are very quiet and well-behaved during church and you never hear them make a sound.  That's pretty awesome considering Jack's charming personality.  So if he wants to lay on the floor under the pew, I'm cool with it.  But I was still happy to see him on his behind in the seat for a change.

Oh, and we ate.  Of course we ate.  "Big bacon" (Jack's definition of ham), homemade mac and cheese, sweet potatoes and brownies.

Happy Easter and much love from the Mack family.

  1. I must say this post makes me love Joe. I love that he WANTS to wear matching ties with his boys for special holidays. How sweet it that? That's a good man you got. Chris tolerates when we coordinate but I don't think he would ever request it. Of course, I'll take it that he tolerates my behavior. He's a pretty good man too.
