Justice has shown interest in hunting this year. Not in killing for fun, but killing for food. He's decided he wants to hunt deer this year, and we have arranged for that to happen. But before we invested in this hobby, we needed to be sure he was actually going to be able to go through with the killing and the harvesting of whatever animal he was planning to feed us.
Now, I'm game for just about anything and I will eat just about anything. I'm not a bleeding heart, if it moves I'll eat it provided there's a protein content that makes it worth my time. We have some friends that raise rabbits for both pets and meat. I arranged for Justice to go help them with slaughtering and processing the rabbits. I figure if he can kill, skin, butcher and eat a cute little rabbit then a deer will be a piece of cake.
He handled it like a champ. It was not a problem and he was VERY proud of himself after he was finished. He has decided he wants to raise his own meat rabbits, and I'm fine with that. His plan is to start once the cold weather breaks in the spring, so he has plenty of time to come up with a plan.
And as far as eating that rabbit?
He was pretty tasty.
