Happy Birthday Jack!

Jack celebrated his 5th birthday today!

He was very excited because it was also Sunday, which meant that he got to go to "Fancy Church" on his birthday.  In our church we have regular old Sunday church (Fancy Church as Jack calls it, presumably because he wears a suit and tie), and we also have youth activities at the church on Wednesday evenings.  Jack calls Wednesday church "Clothing Church".  Whenever we say we are going to church, he always asks... "Fancy or Clothing?"

Anyway, today he got to go to Fancy Church on his birthday.  And he was super excited because he got to wear a birthday ribbon so everyone would know it was his birthday.  He didn't really need the ribbon, he told every single person at the church at least twice it was his birthday.

We bought Jack a Wii for his birthday.  Talk about controversy.  Justice asked for a Wii for his birthday.  We told him no.  And we stuck to our guns and didn't give in for a couple reasons.  1-He got a PS3 for Christmas.  2-The boys already had a Wii once, they broke it.  Well, Jack broke it.  So why in the world would we get him another one?  Well, because of Jack's "B".  It was all part of a bribe to get him to give up his "B" (security blanket).  More on that later in a different post.

These pictures crack me up, look at Justice's face in all of them as Jack is opening his Wii.  Justice is absolutely speechless and shocked that we got Jack a Wii when we wouldn't get him one.  He's looking at me like "I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!"  Ha!  Jack's not wearing an excited and surprised look because he had known for a month that he was getting a Wii.

Justice:  "Dude, aren't you happy?"
Jack:  "Yes, I'm happy.  I already knew I was getting it, Mom and Dad told me."
Justice:  "DUDE, AND YOU DIDNT' TELL ME??"
Jack:  "Nope.  You didn't need to know."

Classic!

And then there was Jack's cake.  I had hell with the cake.  Actually, I expected to have hell with the fondant Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that I made to go on top of the cake.  Turns out they were easier than I thought they would be.  So I thought I was home free.  I mean, seriously, I bake a cake a week.  I figured that would be the easy part.  Ha.  NOT.

The cake stuck to the bottom of the pan.  I've never had that happen before.  Same old butter cake recipe, same old pans, same old grease and flour deal.  I have absolutely no clue why they stuck, but they stuck BADLY.  I seriously had to glue the pieces of the cake together with extra frosting to get it to hold together.  Then I ran out of green food coloring.  It was too late to get any more, so the frosting was light green instead of dark green.  Since I had to use so much frosting to glue the cake together I didn't have enough to do borders or writing or anything... and I had no more butter to make more frosting.  And no more food coloring.

It was honestly a disaster.  In my eyes anyhow.  But not in Jack's eyes.  Through the eyes of a newly minted five-year old it was the coolest cake he had ever seen.

We ate pizza for lunch and he planned on having chicken and corn for dinner (his choice), and then around 1600, the poor little feller got sick.  Really sick.  Three days prior, Justice had the stomach flu, and poor Jack came down with it hard the afternoon of his birthday.  He puked twenty times before bedtime.  I felt SO bad for him, he was so upset.  We had planned on surprising him with a camping trip to the "Yogi Camp" as he calls it over Memorial Day weekend, but we went ahead and told him about it now to make him feel better.

This is the way the poor little birthday boy's day ended.  Sleeping on a towel, puke bucket nearby, with not one, but two B's to help him feel better.

All right, Jack.  Here are your stats for the year:

Height:  43 1/2 inches (you grew 2 1/2 inches since last year, 61% for your height)
Weight:  38 pounds (only 2 pounds heavier, 29% for your weight)
Favorite saying:  "I didn't even have my hour yet" (twenty times a day about whether or not you played your allotted daily hour on the video game)
Favorite color:  Green
Favorite food:  Chicken and corn
Favorite drink:  Water
Favorite TV shows:  Max and Ruby, and Team Umizoomi
Favorite Movie:  Ironman 3
Favorite Book:  Anything with Clifford the Dog in it.
Favorite thing to do:  Blow up balloons (which is funny because you can't blow them up, so Dad gets to do it for you).  That was your answer... my answer is that you really like to wrestle.  You wrestle pillows, stuffed animals, your WWE Wrestling Buddy, and most of all, you wrestle your Bubbie.  And sometimes you win.

We love you little buddy.  We really look forward to taking you camping this weekend to make up for your sick birthday!
