Jack's Very Green 4th Birthday

This is the first year in three years we have celebrated Jack's birthday.  Up until this year,  Jack has been "scared of birthdays".   Every single time I even mentioned his birthday last year he completely freaked out and wouldn't even allow me to discuss it.  "DON'T TALK ABOUT IT  MOM, I AM NOT HAVING A BIRTHDAY!!!".  What an odd little booger.  So the day went past without even a mention of it being his birthday.  No cake, no presents, no nothing.  I tried to tell him Happy Birthday the morning of the big day but he shrieked at me "IT'S NOT MY BIRTHDAY!!!" and I backed off.  I still shake my head about it a year later.  Who under the age of 30 doesn't want to have a birthday?

This year he finally came around a little.  He said "NO PARTY" but agreed to cake and presents. Jackson is obsessed with the color green.  He wants everything around him to be green.  His clothes, his food, everything.  If green is an option, he chooses it every time.  Even at dinner I can actually get him to eat a ton of veggies as long as they are green.  Even spinach.  So this year, we made the color green the theme for his birthday.  All his gifts were green, his cake was green, and we decorated with green balloons.

The night before his birthday the Stake held a Father/Son Campout, so I had the opportunity to bake his cake and wrap his presents without actually having to hide from him.  I didn't do much, I didn't want to go overboard and scare him.  So I kept it simple with just a few balloons.  We stuck to the green theme down to every last present.

I'm guessing by the look on his face that it wasn't too overwhelming and now he is a fan of birthdays.  I don't think I will have ANY problem with him next year!

See Jack's afro?  It's a mess!  They had the Father/Son Campout the night before, and went straight to the boy's soccer games from the campout.  Do you think Dad took five seconds to fix his lopsided fro?  Clearly the answer is no.

And this is Jack's cake.  The only stipulation he had for his cake was that it be green.  You want green?  You got it!  I am the WORST cake decorator in the entire universe, hands down.  I can bake my face off and bake anything and it all tastes awesome.  HOWEVER, I cannot frost or decorate a cake to save my LIFE.  It's AWFUL!  I'm even too scared to take a class because I'm afraid that I will still suck.  Anyhow, this is a really ugly cake.  But it's green and Jack laughed like a hyena when we cut into it and he realized it was green inside, too.  Every square inch of this cake is green.

I don't know what happened to half of the pictures, but they are blurry.  Huge huge bummer.  But at least it softens up the edges of his hair.

He looks certifiably insane in this picture.

After we ate cut and opened presents we took him to Chuck E. Cheese.
